Kimmarie “Kim” McCrann grew up playing the piano. And creating imaginary worlds out of LEGOS and Barbies with her brother. And handcrafting ‘newspapers’ about her hometown with construction paper, colored pencils, and a generous amount of Elmer’s glue.
Today, Kim continues to share stories with anyone who will listen.
Originally pursuing a career in performance, she earned her BFA in Acting from Adelphi University. There, she took one directing course which changed everything—and she hasn’t looked back since.
As a theatre director and dramaturg, Kimmarie is able to combine her love for research, composition, and immersive storytelling all in one. When leading a rehearsal space, Kim firmly believes in a human-first approach. She begins each rehearsal with a check-in and a moment of connection. She prides herself on her ability to read the energy in a room and respond with thoughtful, in-the-moment problem solving.
After graduation, Kim moved to the Tuscan countryside to serve as the Artist in Residence at the Accademia Dell’Arte. During this eighteen-month residency, she wrote and performed in a one-woman show and guided dozens of students in discovering their artistic voices.
Upon returning stateside, Kim went north to complete a Directing & Dramaturgy Apprenticeship at Portland Stage Company in Maine. She stayed in Portland through the summer to work as an Associate Producer and Assistant Director with the Portland Theater Festival.
Currently, Kim is a 2050 Artistic Workshop Administrative Fellow at New York Theatre Workshop.
Kim lives in Astoria, where she is proudly—and persistently—on the hunt for the perfect bánh mì.
